Tutorial on reinstalling the system on the VPS netboot.xyz network

netboot.xyz network reinstallation tool can easily reinstall various operating systems. There are also many netboot.xyz tutorials on the Internet, but they all have some problems. In this article, we tested 3 methods using the Banwagonhost VPS. There is always an installation method you need. The prerequisite for using netboot is that you can use VNC or IPMI.

1. Directly overwrite the disk image and start it at boot

wget https://boot.netboot.xyz/ipxe/netboot.xyz.img dd if=netboot.xyz.img of=/dev/sda

Netboot is automatically loaded when booting, and the network is automatically connected by default

2. Use GRUB to boot from ISO file

Applicable to virtual machines and debian systems

apt install grub-imageboot -y mkdir /boot/images cd /boot/images wget https://boot.netboot.xyz/ipxe/netboot.xyz.iso update-grub reboot

3.iPXE installation method (manual installation)

apt-get install ipxe grub-reboot "Network boot (iPXE)" reboot

iPXE or optional startup items are automatically loaded at boot, and the network needs to be set manually

dhcp chain --autofree http://boot.netboot.xyz

Due to possible network problems, you need to manually set up the relevant network
