Tutorial on how to install aaPanel panel (Pagoda International Edition) on Ubuntu 20.04

aaPanel is an open source, lightweight Linux control panel that provides a web interface and tools to simplify the creation of web hosting environments. The control panel provides a simple web dashboard for setting up websites, databases, DNS entries, mail accounts, and applications on the server. To put it simply, aaPanel is actually the international/overseas version of Pagoda Panel, using an English interface. So this article introduces the installation of Pagoda International version aaPanel panel. In this article we will install aaPanel on an Ubuntu 20.04 server, and then use the web interface to create a simple website.

Installation aaPanel panel tutorial

1. Download the aaPanel installation script

$ wget http://www.aapanel.com/script/install-ubuntu_6.0_en.sh

2. Run the downloaded script

$ sudo bash install-ubuntu_6.0_en.sh

3. The system will prompt you to set the installation directory. By default, if you enter Y, /var/www/ will be used.

Once the installation is complete, a random administrator username and password will be displayed in your console and the required aaPanel port will be automatically configured on the firewall.

Note that this is somewhat different from the mainland China version. Instead of the default port 8888, the panel port is 7800, as shown below:

If port 7800 and other aaPanel ports are allowed, please confirm the current firewall rules:

$ sudo ufw status

aaPanel is now ready for configuration. Generally speaking, there is no problem with firewall configuration for Banwagonhost VPS. As shown below:

Copy a random secure URL from the SSH console. Paste this into your web browser and log in to the control panel using the random credentials generated by the installation script.

Install LAMP or LEMP website building environment

You will need to install the web stack on the server. Both LEMP and LAMP stacks will be displayed in pop-up windows. Choose your best option and below we will install the LEMP stack.

The web stack installation process will begin. Depending on your server configuration, the installation should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

After installation is complete, the homepage aaPanel dashboard will display your current server resource usage, traffic, statistics and control panel tools for configuring the server.

The next step is to add domain names, configure websites and other operations. In fact, they are the same as the Chinese version of the Pagoda Panel, so this article will not introduce them one by one.

If the server is restarted, the web panel will fail to load on port 8888. Start aaPanel using bt as the service identifier.

$ sudo systemctl start bt

To confirm whether the panel is running with errors, please query the bt service status.

$ sudo systemctl status bt
