When you get your own Linux host, you need to connect to the host locally to operate the host. Xshell is a very easy-to-use free terminal simulation software that can easily allow you to remotely connect to Linux on Windows ( SSH), operate your own VPS host. This article introduces the Xshell download and Xshell usage tutorial.
Introduction to Xshell
Xshell is a very powerful secure terminal emulation software (SSH, Secure Shell) that supports SSH1, SSH2, and the TELNET protocol of the Microsoft Windows platform.
In short, Xshell allows you to remotely access Linux hosts of different systems in a Windows system, thereby achieving the purpose of remote control of the terminal.
Xshell download
Xshell is actually free for individuals. Many people find that the trial period has expired when using Xshell. It should be that they chose not the personal version (home version) during installation, or the verification mode after Xshell6. Anyway, Xshell5 is old I have been using it for more than a year and it can still be used. Just ignore the update.
Here is the download address of the free version of Xshell5: Xshell download address.
Xshell usage tutorial
1. Host remote information
When connecting to a Linux host remotely, the first thing you need to determine is the remote information of your host, including the host IP address, remote (SSH) port number, username and password.
Generally speaking, the host IP address will be written clearly in the host details. If the SSH port number is not specified, it is usually 22. If the user name is not specified, it is usually root. If the password is not specified in the details, it will usually be sent to you by email.
2. Create a new connection
Create a new connection in Xshell, File -> New:
3. Enter connection information
First, enter the IP address and port number of the host, and choose any name:
Then enter the username, usually root (if this window does not pop up, please check whether the host provider has SSH restrictions and check IP availability):
Enter the SSH password and click OK to connect to your VPS:
The following prompt indicates that you have successfully connected to Linux using Xshell (Connection established, and there is a green cursor to be entered):
