VPS Beginner Tutorial: Understanding and Using Putty Client

There are many modified versions of Putty software, which have great security risks. It has been revealed before that a backdoor was added to the Chinese version of Putty, so that your data information is completely exposed to others, which is too dangerous. Therefore, I recommend that you download from the official website: www.putty.org. By default, the download will jump to http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html, which is the official website. Authentic.

Let’s first get to know the interface of putty: [Figure 1]

Most commonly used (1): direct login

[1] Enter the IP address of the VPS, [2] Enter the port, the default is usually 22, unless modified, [3] Enter a label, click "SAVE" to save, this can be used if you have multiple VPS To distinguish, this step can be omitted if you are not afraid of the trouble of typing every time you open the software. [4] Click "Open"

As shown below, I bought a VPS from bandwagonhost.com, filled in the information and clicked "Open"

The interface as shown below will pop up, click "YES" directly

Enter the black interface, enter the default user name "root" and press Enter, then enter the password and press Enter directly. Access denied means that the login request is rejected. This means that either the login user name is wrong or the login password is wrong. I am demonstrating I didn't notice that there was an extra space in the copied password, which resulted in the wrong password twice.

Note: When you enter the password in putty, it will not be displayed. Don't think that it is not entered. Copying and pasting the password will also not be displayed.

As shown below: [Figure 6], first fill in the IP and port in the order in the picture, and then find "Auth"
