Snail shared my commonly used tool for XShell SSH remote connection to Linux servers in last week's article ""XShell/XFtp Latest V7.0 Official Free Download and Common XShell Shortcut Commands". Of course, I am using the free version of Home/School. Although there is a limit on the number of server connections that can be used at the same time, basically we do not need to manage so many servers at the same time, so it is enough. Currently, there is an official upgrade to the V7.0 version. However, if we need to use cross-version, we need to download and upgrade again. We cannot upgrade to the V7.0 version on our original V6.0 version.
Some netizens here will definitely mention that the old PuTTY SSH tool is equally good and free, isn’t it great? Indeed, Snail has also seen that many netizens also use the PuTTY tool, including colleagues in our company who also use this tool. I also asked him before why he doesn't use other ones, and he replied that he is used to it and doesn't want to change, which is indeed the case. It’s not that there’s anything else bad about it. Although the Putty interface is average, it doesn’t matter once you get used to it.
This is the interface of Putty. When logging in, you can only manage a single server with a single tab.
If we need to download it, we must download it from the official website.
Putty official download address
The current version is version 0.74. What is strange is the version number of PuTTY. It has not exceeded V1.0 for so many years. The set version number is quite interesting. If you are like ordinary people, you will already have version V10+.
If we insist on talking about the difference with XSHELL, Snail personally feels that the interface UI of PUTTY is slightly weaker, and it seems that there is no Chinese version. I personally do not recommend using some so-called Chinese versions on the Internet. After all, the security of client management tools is very important. There have been security issues with the so-called Chinese version or portable version in the past.
At the same time, PUTTY can only manage a single server at the same time with a single label. If we need multiple servers, we need to open multiple ones. And there is no limit on the number of sites, but xshell has site limits at the same time. If I remember correctly, XSHELL can only have four sites at the same time, and XFTP can only have 2 sites at the same time.
In short, we can choose one according to our needs and habits. Snails are all installed, so you can use whichever one you want. It's just a tool.
