Writing articles itself is a very painful thing, especially technical articles that must be tested before being shared, and Snail cannot ensure that every user can complete it successfully when they need reference, but I can Make sure that when writing the article, all the recorded information is actually executed in the current environment. And there may be errors or even the user may make errors even if they ask Snail to install again. There are various factors that cause these problems.
After reading the article "Installing Windows Tutorial in Linux KVM Environment – Partition Drive Letter and Mounting Debian Installation", we can only complete the first part, and we have not finished the work yet. We still need to install the GHO system through booting. File can be used to install the WIN system, just like how we use DOS to quickly restore the system. When writing this article, I have been looking for available Windows GHO system files. Some netizens have shared them before, but the addresses found for several of them are invalid. Here I found a Windows 2003 version from the Internet and I’m not sure whether it can be installed. Anyway, I gave it a try.
Step one, upload necessary files
After we have installed the Debian environment, we have partitioned and set the drive letter size as needed. Because the machine used for the Snail test only has a 10GB hard drive, which is not generous, so we can only reluctantly partition it.
Here we need to prepare 3 files, namely MAXDOS.IMG (https://soft.laozuo.org/iso/MAXDOS.IMG), grub4dos.tar (https://soft.laozuo.org/iso/ grub4dos.tar), and the .GHO suffix system files of the key WIN system. The first two snails were found on the Internet and shared. Firstly, there are copyright issues involved in the system files. Secondly, the files are large and occupy resources. Thirdly, I cannot guarantee whether they can be used, so I will not provide them here, otherwise my uncle will find me.
1. Place the MAXDOS.IMG file in the /boot/boot directory (created through mkdir /boot/boot)
2. Place the grub4dos.tar file in the /boot/ directory and tar -xvf grub4dos.tar to decompress the file to the current directory.
3. Place the .GHO system files in the /dos folder.
After all these files are prepared, we need to continue to log in to VNC to remotely operate the installation process.
The second step is to guide and install the Windows system
After all the files are ready, we still log in to the VNC remote. After entering the interface, we need to press c to boot grub.
1. Enter grub boot
If we see this interface, we also need to press the SEND CTRLALTDEL button in the upper right corner and then press the C key to enter.
2. Enter the command
Enter the command line shown above, line 2, and press Enter to enter.
linux (hd0,1)/grub.exeboot
Select MAXDOS.IMG to proceed to the next step.
3. Prepare the GHOST system
Select MAXDOS Toolbox
According to the command prompt, we enter ghost and press Enter to enter system restore.
4. Ghost restore system
In the early years, we used GHOST restore to install the system. This method is very fast to install. Have we installed the system before? Here you need to use the keyboard TAB keyboard and the Enter key to select the file. You need to use LOCAL-DISK-FROM IMAGE to find the .GHO file we have prepared, and then restore the system through this file.
Here we look for the file drive letter of our GHO, and then after selecting it, we can continue to find the drive letter we set to install the WINDOWS system. There is really a bit of a lag here, probably because the memory is too small (512MB of memory was used in the test here). I originally didn’t want to continue writing, but I have already written so much.
It seems that it is about to be finished. Let's wait and see, because it is an SSD hard drive and it is expected to be faster. I was originally looking for the XP system circulating on the Internet, but I couldn't find it. I found a WIN2003 system. I don't know if it is easy to use, but the process must be like this. In short, this method is purely a toss-up. Generally, merchants cannot install it this way. If they are found, their machine or even their account will be blocked. So Snail is just messing around here. Friends in the group also asked not to install it like this. It is a waste of time and has no use. It's necessary, it's a waste of time, I've been struggling for several days.
It is estimated that the resource usage is too poor. This test VPS is going to crash and is stuck here with no progress. Theoretically, you can just wait until the upgrade is completed. The process should be correct. After the installation is completed, we need to set the network card, IP and DNS settings so that we can access the Internet. No more snail trouble, it is a waste of time. It is better to waste time like this by checking the trash can to see if there are any bottles, and then directly buy a WIN VPS or use other methods.
PS: According to the introduction of other netizens, this method should be like this in theory, but because it is too stuck, Snail did not wait for the final installation. If any friends have installed it like this or there are problems with the method process records on Snail, you can leave a message For reference to other netizens, please do not mislead everyone because of my article. The above article is purely based on my own efforts, and I cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to install it.
