I believe that many people hate the frequent updates and upgrades when using the WordPress program. If you don’t upgrade, there may be security issues. If you upgrade, various problems may occur. In the past, when Snail was upgrading WordPress, he often encountered various problems such as plug-in incompatibility, logging into the homepage of the website, and a blank interface in the background. So now, every time I see a new version of WP updated, I feel a little scared.

I once shared an article about WP upgrade on Snail Blog (the correct process for upgrading WordPress version – automatic upgrade, manual upgrade and common error resolution). Our favorite way is to see when logging in to the backend. After receiving the new version reminder, you can directly click on the online upgrade, which saves you worry and effort, including me. But this is also the most likely to cause problems.

For example, I encountered a new problem this time. When upgrading to version 4.5.2 (it also happened many times when upgrading corporate websites for corporate customers in the past few days), there was a prompt "Another" during the upgrade. Update in progress\\" issue.

According to the error message, Snail also looked for some solutions on the Internet, for example, most of them used this method:

1. In the wp_options data table of the current WP program;

2. Find the core_updater.lock field, delete it and click the background automatic upgrade link again.

However, I still get the same error after operating this method N times. So how to solve it? Directly adopt the manual upgrade method.

First, delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders and contents in the current website (do not delete the wp-content folder, remember)

Second, download the latest version of the WP program and replace the above two folders and their contents, including the website root directory, into the current website directory.

Third, execute http://current website domain name/wp-admin/upgrade.php

If there is a need to upgrade the database, we click the button to upgrade. If there is no need to click to upgrade the database, you can see the picture below.

This means we are already at the latest version.

In summary, it seems that the most reliable method is to upgrade manually. Automatic upgrades are always worrying about problems. Regardless of the upgrade method, we need to back up the current website files and database in advance so that we can restore to the previous version in case of problems.
