Because we need to upload a key, we need to generate one first. Here Susu uses Xshell to generate it. It is relatively simple. You can also use putty. As shown below, enter the password according to the prompts, and finally save it as a file. Please be sure to remember the file location. This is the public key.

Click [Finish], you will enter [User Key], select the public key you just generated, and click Export. This is the private key. Be sure to keep your public and private keys.

Upload the public key on the web page, click [Create], and then you can wait for the free VPS to be successfully created.

Then when we connect to the VPS, we do not use a password, but a private key to log in.

At this time, we have uploaded the public key and have our own private key. Then when we use xshell to connect to the VPS, we need to select the secret key.

In fact, before logging in, we'd better set up the firewall first.

Enter our VPS details, click the link of [Virtual Cloud Network], and enter our public subnet. If there is not one, you can create one.

At this point, this free VPS can be pinged, and all ports are open. Of course, the firewall port that comes with the VPS still needs to be opened by ourselves.

Okay, now you can use xshell to log in to our VPS. However, Oracle’s VPS username is not root, so you need to find it out separately. In fact, it is also very simple, just use root to log in, and then the system will tell you What username should be used, as shown below:

But what if you must log in as root? For example, if you need to install Pagoda, you need root. Two methods

One is to run the command: sudo -i, which will automatically obtain root permissions,

Another method is to modify [/etc/ssh/sshd_config]. The reverse operation is to enable root login.
