Vultr is the first cloud computing provider to offer NVIDIA A16 GPUs, which for us is the next step in the groundbreaking work we started last May to democratize access to accelerated computing. Just like we did with NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs and NVIDIA A40 GPUs, we're leveraging innovative virtualization technology to make select NVIDIA A16 available at unmatched affordable prices.

The end result is a game-changing product that puts high-performance, low-latency Windows and Linux virtual desktops at your fingertips, accessible from anywhere.

Remote virtual desktop is finally really great

If it's been a while since you last tried a virtual desktop, you should know that the technology has come a long way. If you've never tried it before, there's no better time than today!

VDI is not new, although the technology has historically had a reputation for frustrating users with lag and dropped frames. This is largely due to the fact that many virtual desktops in the past relied entirely on traditional CPUs. Now, with a modern, purpose-built NVIDIA GPU connected, everything is even better.

Our previously announced cloud GPUs powered by NVIDIA A40 provide the perfect virtual workstation for the most demanding graphics-intensive applications such as visual effects (VFX), rendering, and computer-aided design (CAD).

For less graphics-intensive applications—think developer IDEs like Visual Studio or Android Studio, or Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, or Word—cloud GPUs powered by NVIDIA A16 pack plenty of punch. You can also try the A16 for some of the above graphics-intensive applications (and video games), then upgrade to the A40 if you find you need more power.

Vultr delivers a virtual desktop end-user experience virtually indistinguishable from a local PC because we use both the latest and greatest NVIDIA software and hardware. Specifically, Vultr Cloud instances powered by NVIDIA A16 leverage NVIDIA Virtual PC (vPC) software to accelerate desktop applications.

Given how far virtual desktop performance has come, businesses are becoming more receptive to the technology every day. With remote working now the norm for many professions, IT departments will increasingly find it easier, more secure and less expensive to manage virtual desktops than physical computers.

Affordable and versatile for transcoding, streaming, and machine learning inference

Through the wonders of virtualization, we are able to split the NVIDIA A16 GPU into multiple parts. This is the full suite of plans we are launching today.

We'll also note that, especially at these lower price points, you may want to try the NVIDIA A16 for use cases other than virtual desktops. NVIDIA A16 has the largest number of video encoders and decoders, with four on-chip hardware encoder (NVENC) and eight decoder (NVDEC) units on a single board. This makes NVIDIA A16 ideal for a variety of transcoding and streaming workloads. We also found success using parts of the A16 for machine learning inference.

NVIDIA A16, A40 and A100 GPUs also available as bare metal

NVIDIA A16 is the latest member of the growing family of NVIDIA GPUs, available with Vultr for both virtual machines and bare metal. With bare metal, you have direct access to all underlying physical hardware, including all GPUs on the server, without any virtualization layers.

Get started now, or contact us to discuss your business needs

To configure a virtual machine or bare metal server powered by an NVIDIA A16, A40, or A100 GPU, visit the Cloud GPU area in the Vultr control panel. Vultr Cloud with NVIDIA A16 is available now in New Jersey, London, Frankfurt, and Tokyo.

After you configure your server with an NVIDIA A16 or A40, you can easily connect to it using a variety of clients, including Parsec, Microsoft Remote Desktop, and VNC. You can then access Windows and Linux virtual desktops from any device, whether you're using a Chromebook, tablet, or smartphone.

We encourage enterprises interested in deploying cloud GPUs at scale—whether for VDI, AI, VFX, HPC, or any other use case—to contact our sales team to learn more. We recently expanded capacity on the NVIDIA A40 GPU for visual computing and the NVIDIA A100 GPU for AI, machine learning, and HPC. The NVIDIA A40 is currently available in Los Angeles, New Jersey, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Bangalore, Singapore, and Sydney via Vultr. The NVIDIA A100 is available through Vultr in New Jersey, Silicon Valley, London, and Tokyo, with other locations available upon request.

We are also looking forward to introducing support for the latest NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU.
