I have seen that many small blogs and sites around me have started to use https mode, and Google and Baidu have all supported https, and they are also encouraging webmasters to "upgrade" to https. Turning on the "green lock" displayed on the address bar of the https browser will give users a sense of security. Another point is that search engines such as Duniang, 360, and Google have also turned on https. I believe https will be a trend in the future.
At present, Google is better at including https, while other search engines in mainland China still need some time to improve at the technical level. Many webmasters are waiting and watching, including this website itself, wondering whether they should use https? Is HTTPS really good?
Briefly talk about your views on https:
1. Reason for selection
SEO: Through the introduction of Google and Baidu, websites using HTTPS encryption will rank higher in search results. However, Baidu is still not perfect and is still improving. After all, Google is currently unavailable in mainland China (this refers to the normal situation). Relatively speaking, friends whose main users are in mainland China have to rely on search engines in mainland China.
Security: Although HTTPS is not absolutely secure, organizations that control root certificates and encryption algorithms can also carry out man-in-the-middle attacks. But HTTPS is still the most secure solution under the current architecture.
2. Reasons for not choosing
Slower website access: According to reports from some well-known websites, using the HTTPS protocol will extend the page loading time by nearly 50% and increase power consumption by 10% to 20%. In addition, the HTTPS protocol will also affect caching, increase data overhead and power consumption, and even existing security measures will be affected. HTTPS connection server-side resources are much higher, and it requires greater costs to support websites with slightly more visitors.
Plug-in incompatibility: Some plug-ins cannot be used well in the SSL environment and cannot be opened, etc.
Cannot call http resources: https websites cannot call http resources, such as some weather forecast codes, Tencent marketing QQ codes, iframe external links, and other third-party codes that do not support https, and can no longer be tried unless the website uses http. access. I believe this is also one of the reasons why many partners have not launched SSL for the time being!
Increase additional costs: Although there are free SSL certificates, if you want to operate your website for a long time, you still have to purchase a paid SSL.
3. Summary
Whether I should use SSL or not? I saw some small sites online and wanted to try it out. However, I didn’t have the time. It would take a few hours or a few days at most. After all, it was still quite time-consuming. Personally, I think that ordinary small websites can be put away for the time being, unless you have obsessive-compulsive disorder. If it is a website with relatively high security requirements, such as an e-commerce website, it is best to use SSL. After all, there is a little green lock. It still looks good, hehe!
