How is Vultr billed? I believe many people have similar questions. They have heard that Vultr charges VPS by the hour, but why is it still charging after it is suspended? Today, this site will introduce in detail Vultr charging standards and how to delete Vultr VPS to implement hourly charging.

1. Vultr charging standards

Vultr charging standards actually have two limitations: time limit and traffic limit. Whichever of the two is used more will be charged. For a detailed introduction, please refer to the Vultr official website: www.vultr.com.

Vultr time charging standard:

All servers on your account are billed hourly up to the monthly rate cap. The hourly rate is determined by dividing the monthly rate by 672 hours (28 days). If your server is online for more than 672 hours in a calendar month , you will only be billed the monthly rate. Accumulated charges are invoiced to your account on the 1st of every month.

That is, all packages are charged by the hour. For example, for a package of US$5 per month, if there are 672 hours per month, the hourly price is US$0.0074, and the part over 672 hours will not be charged. .

Vultr traffic charging standard:

If your plan has 1000GB allocated to it, the amount of transfer per hour for overage calculations is 1000 / 672 = 1.48GB/hour. Your pending charges will reflect the overage calculated by this formula. Note: In some cases it may be less expensive to leave your instance running than to destroy it and be assessed overage charges.

Vultr traffic is also allocated by the hour. For example, a 1000GB package is allocated 1.48GB of traffic per hour. Some people use up 1000GB of traffic in one day, and then delete the server to reset the traffic. This is not feasible and will eventually happen. Add it to your monthly expenses.

2. Vultr stops charging

Vultr cannot stop charging when it is shut down or paused. So how does Vultr stop charging? As shown in the figure below, click "Server Destroy" to delete the Vultr VPS to stop charging. "Server Stop" cannot stop charging. Server Stop means shutting down. Of course, you still have to pay for shutting down, because server resources, The IP resources are still occupied by you.

It should be noted that after deleting the Vultr instance, all data on the server will be deleted and the IP will be recycled. The next time you buy it, it will be a new machine.

Finally, if you don’t have a Vultr account yet, you can participate in the Vultr new user discount: "Vultr Special Topic: Compilation of discounts for new and old users and sharing of Vultr discount codes"
