VPS in Japanese data centers is rare for webmasters in mainland China who do not want to register. It is geographically close, cheap, and has sufficient bandwidth. In addition, Japanese people are diligent in business processing, so they choose websites built overseas. It is right to consider purchasing a VPS in a Japanese data center for a long time.

We currently know that there are many Japanese VPS, such as sakura, cloudcore, kagoya, gmocloud and onamae [these two belong to the same company], saases, dream, etc. These either do not support overseas users to purchase, or they do not It supports credit cards of overseas users, and of course it does not support Paypal. Not only is communication limited to Japanese, it will be a pain in the ass if something goes wrong. So there are really not many that support Chinese and English. Currently, there are only 4 that I know of, namely linode.com (US merchant), vultr.com (US merchant), conoha.jp (Japanese merchant) and vps.net (British businessman), I will leave aside VPS.NET here. The reason is relatively simple. The cloud architecture they use XEN+ONAPP is too expensive and the price is too expensive [the minimum monthly payment starts at US$20].

Below we will roughly discuss the merchant’s background information, price, hardware, ease of operation, after-sales support, etc.

Background PK:

Background Linode: Founded in 2003, it is an American VPS merchant with a history of 12 years. It mainly operates VPS based on XEN virtualization (linux only). It will soon support KVM (currently on the inside) and currently has 7 data centers [ Newark, Atlanta, Dallas, Fremont, London, Singapore, Tokyo] (the eighth Frankfurt is coming soon), employing about 19 people.

Background Vultr: Founded in 2014, it is a VPS cloud brand affiliated to choopa.com (founded in 2000, obtained ASN in 2001, self-built computer room passed Tier4 certification), and mainly operates VPS (linux) based on KVM virtualization and windows), there are currently 14 data centers around the world [Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, Seattle, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Sydney, Tokyo]

Background Conoha: Founded in 2013, it is affiliated to Japan's GMO Internet, Inc (founded in 1991 and has N subsidiaries, see details). Currently, it mainly operates VPS based on KVM virtualization in the United States, Singapore, and Japan. 3 data centers, the website supports Chinese, English and Japanese!

Price PK

In the three pictures below, we can clearly see some of the parameters we are concerned about from the resources. We use a VPS with 1G memory for comparison:

They are all billed by the hour. Conoha has the most obvious advantage in terms of price. Conoha gives the most in terms of CPU. It is obvious that they are both conoha>linode>vultr in SSD, and vultr>linode>conoha in terms of ports.

Linode, billed by the hour, minimum: 10 US dollars monthly, SSD hard drive, minimum 125M port [the port will be doubled for each upgrade level]

vultr, billed by the hour, monthly payment: minimum US$5, SSD hard drive, 1000M port (has been upgraded to 10G port, but is actually limited to 10G)

conoha, billed by the hour, monthly payment: minimum 900 yen (RMB 46, USD 7.4), 100M port

Hardware:

CPU:

Linode: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz

Vultr: There are many types of CPUs in the early stage, basically the E3 series, the more common one is E3-1230 v3 @ 3.30GHz, and later E5-2620V2 appeared

Conoha: E5-2660V3 @2.6GHz

Memory: Ignore it, the standard should be DDR 3 ECC, DDR4 has not appeared in these three companies, XEN and KVM can both exceed it, but we can basically rule out oversold memory of these three companies

Hard drive: all use SSD, the specific brands may be different, currently all use raid10

Port:

linode: Starting from 125M port, each subsequent upgrade will immediately double the port "indescribably", up to 1G

vultr: Some computer rooms in the United States belong to our own. Singapore, Sydney, and Japan currently have 1G ports, and many other computer rooms have been upgraded to 10G ports

conoha: In your own computer room, limit each VPS to 100M ports

Ease of background operation:

Create VPS: All three companies can create a VPS in 2 minutes through obvious buttons and click it for direct use. Among them, vultr and conoha can bring some of their own environments such as LEMP.

Backup data: You can back up image snapshots with one click, both require charges

Operating system: linode is limited to official templates, vultr can freely load ISO files in addition to official templates, and conoha will introduce ISO in the future

DNS: All provide free DNS services, among which conoha also provides high-end cloud DNS.

Payment renewal: linode only supports credit cards, vultr also supports paypal in addition to credit cards, and conoha supports credit cards, paypal, and Alipay

Load balancing: Linode is purchased for a fee, vultr is not supported, and conoha is purchased for a fee

API: All supported

IP addition: Linode and vultr are basically not supported, conoha can add it freely (for a fee)

After sales:

Linode: The backend supports online tickets, has an official forum, and has official documents for easy inquiry. It also supports hotlines, faxes, and emails, and feedback is basically within half an hour

vultr: The background supports online tickets, usually feedback within half an hour, there is an official forum (response is slow)

conoha: Currently only supports asking questions (here)

Personal summary:

If you only choose a Japanese data center, it is recommended to choose linode for enterprise commercial operation, and conoha and vultr for personal use. From the price point of view, conoha is the most cost-effective, and from the qualifications, choose conoha>vultr>linode (but in terms of operational experience) linode>conoha>vultr), the most convenient one is vultr (you can customize the ISO and modify the system startup items), the most suitable for site groups and "indescribable" is conoha, from the line conoha>linode>vultr...
