Friendhosting can be regarded as a VPS business with a relatively long history, but overall it is far from reaching a high level of popularity, and it is even said to be a relatively unpopular business. Since each VPS limits 100M bandwidth, does not limit traffic, and supports custom ISOs, it is highly adaptable. In addition, there are promotions for the duration, so some people still like it. Today I would like to share with you the evaluation data of friendhosting’s VPS in the Los Angeles computer room on the west coast of the United States, for reference only!

The webmaster got the configuration of 2G memory, 2 cores, and 20G SSD for everyone to evaluate. I don’t know the CPU model, but it is most likely e5-26xx. With BBR enabled, the hard disk I/O is approximately 281MB/S:
FIO test, comparison:
During the day, during leisure time, the speedtest.net node test in China showed that the uplink speed was close to 100Mbps, and the downlink speed was almost the same:
At 9:18 during the evening rush hour, the change is actually not that big:
Other nodes in Asia, let’s use them as a reference:
iperf3 test results in Europe and America:
The webmaster is Guangzhou Telecom, and the Chrome browser directly downloads the files stored on the test VPS, 10.9MB/S, which means it basically reaches the official default bandwidth of 100Mbps:
In the evening rush hour, when nothing changes, the download speed is only 2.5MB/S:
Take a look at the test data of 80 nodes in mainland China provided by ping.chinaz.com:
Telecommunications outbound, backbone network docking with American cogentco:
China Unicom outbound, backbone network docking with GTT:
Moving outbound, CMI connects with cogentco:
Return to Mainland China Telecom: Take the cogentco exit from San Jose in the direction of Beijing and Shanghai, and directly connect to the San Jose exit in the direction of Guangzhou
Return to China Unicom: To Beijing and Shanghai, connect to China Unicom AS4837 at Los Angeles GTT; to Guangzhou, take the San Jose exit to AS4837
Return trip to China Mobile: To Beijing, take the Los Angeles cogentco and pick up the mobile AS9808; to Shanghai, go to the San Jose exit cogentco and pick up the mobile AS9808; to Guangzhou, take the Los Angeles GTT and pick up the CMI
Finally, prepare a Unix bench. The benchmark results are actually relatively weak:
To summarize: For ordinary lines, from the perspective of outbound and return journeys, the effect of China Unicom should not be bad; China Telecom and China Mobile use their own backbones and add a cogentco, so the actual effect is estimated to be a little worse.
