Record Linode's configuration reduction plan to save costs. Downgrade the old configuration by one level.

Linode merchants doubled the memory upgrade last year, but the price did not change, with the lowest price being $10 a month. And for most basic users, doubling the memory is not of much use. At that time, the sound was half the price, and the memory remained at the original starting price of 1GB. Some time ago this year, we also saw that this time the lowest configuration plan was 1GB, and the monthly payment was $5, so if you need to upgrade to the 2GB plan and do not need this configuration, you can downgrade it. This reduces costs.

Snail also has a test machine that is currently configured with 2GB, and we plan to save some costs by downgrading it. So by the way, I also recorded this article so that some friends can refer to it.

First, preparations before Linode downgrades the configuration

1. Backup, backup. To ensure that possible problems arise, we need to back up the server website and data that are to be downgraded to a local or other remote machine. It is really helpless when some things happen.

2. Check whether the current environment really does not require 2GB of memory. We need to check whether the current server environment really does not need 2GB of memory. For example, you have only used a few hundred MB. If it is more than 1GB, it is better not to downgrade.

Second, Linode downgrade configuration (downshift) process

1. Shut down

Enter the current required operation Linode panel and shut down the VPS host.

2. Modify the hard disk size

Because the hard drive in the 1GB configuration plan is only 20GB, and the original configuration we upgraded to the 2GB plan was 24GB (the new one is currently 30GB), so we need to adjust the hard drive to 20GB.

Here we need to adjust the hard drive.

I will not calculate the exact value here, because theoretically 1GB=1024MB is calculated this way, so I will write an integer directly. After clicking save changes, the system execution progress will be displayed. Wait until completion before proceeding to the next step.

3. Lower the grade

Here we choose the 1024 solution and click the resize this linode now button. Then wait for the progress to complete.

4. Start

After the execution progress is completed, click BOOT to start the boot.

Third, check whether the current configuration is normal

Here, let’s go back and see if the memory is already configured as 1GB, and then check the site (I didn’t put anything else, just a probe test file, and it’s still there) to see if it’s normal. If everything goes well, it's done.

PS: After Linode merchants continue to adjust configurations and reduce prices, after-sales service is no longer as fast as before. It used to take more than ten minutes to submit a work order, but it took half a day to reply after submitting a work order a few days ago.
