We must have received an official email notification from NameCheap a few days ago that a very beautiful backend management panel has been replaced, let us try it quickly. When I tried it today, I was confused. Many of the functions I needed couldn't be found, and the background opening speed was slow, so I was on the verge of crashing. However, in terms of experience and functionality, it is much simpler than the previous extremely complex backend.
For our users who often come into contact with overseas hosts and domain names, basic usage should not be a problem. It is nothing more than simple analysis and other management functions, as well as account information management. Here Snail will simply update the NameCheap backend I would like to briefly share the common functions of the management panel, because several netizens have asked how to use them in the past few days. Maybe this article can help these netizens.
First, panel overview
After we enter the panel, we can see that it is much simpler than the original panel. Generally, we only need to manage more domain names, so on the left, you can see the expiring domain name (Expiring Soon) and the list of all domain names (Domain List) , as well as other products (Product List), and personal information (Profile). If we want our NameCheap account to be more secure, we can add and set up two-step verification and receive a mobile phone SMS verification code when logging in to the account.
Second, set up secondary password verification
We can see the quick guide for starting secondary password protection directly in the picture above on the homepage of the panel, or we can start and set it up in Profile → Security → Two-Factor Authentication.
We can set up to accept mobile phone text messages (free) and then enter our mobile phone number and NC account password to open successfully. In this way, when we log in to the NC account, we will be asked to accept a 5-digit verification code before we can enter the interface.
Third, expired domain name list
If we have many domain names in the NameCheap account, and generally I will check regularly (at the end of each month) whether any domain names have expired, sorting by time is also a way, or we can directly look at the picture above to select the domain names that are about to expire. See the domain name that needs to be renewed one month in advance, and then choose to renew or cancel automatic renewal according to your needs.
Fourth, domain name management
The most common use of overseas domain names here is to resolve A records or alias CNAME resolutions for this domain name, and to change the DNS. At first, when I needed to change the resolution, I really couldn't find the place.
Find the domain name we need to resolve and manage, and click the MANAGE button behind it.
1. Renew and cancel automatic renewal of domain name
To be on the safe side, if we don’t want or are unsure about renewing the domain name, we can uncheck automatic renewal first. You can also register/renew for several more years for domain names that need long-term use.
2. Transfer and transfer domain name ownership
This is quite important. For example, if we have a domain name that needs to be transferred to someone else's NC account, we can directly enter the other person's account and email address to transfer out. If we need to transfer out to another registrar, we need to unlock it first, and then check the WHOIS information of the current domain name. Whether it is our own, and then obtain the transfer code, it will be sent to our WHOIS mailbox.
3. Domain name resolution
Here we can choose direct A record parsing or alias parsing. This is only possible if NC DNS is used. If we use other third-party DNS, we need to set up DNS (click EDIT behind Domain Namecheap Type).
If we are a Chinese site, then use Alibaba.com DNS, DNSPOD, or the recently discussed CLOUDXNS DNS service in mainland China. If it is from abroad, then we can directly use the DNS of NAMECHEAP.
To summarize, generally we only use NAMECHEAP for these functions. The most important thing is that we need to manage the security of our accounts, including the integrity of personal information, the ability to receive emails at any time in the mailbox, and the setting of secondary password verification.
