Akamai said the acquisition of the AWS competitor will help the company build itself into "the most distinctive distributed computing platform in the world."
Under the terms of the deal, Akamai said it would acquire all outstanding equity interests in Linode when the deal closes at the end of the first quarter. The deal is expected to add approximately $100 million to Akamai's revenue by the end of the year.
In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, Akamai achieved net income of US$160.5 million, with earnings per share of US$1.49 after deducting certain costs such as stock compensation. Fourth-quarter revenue reached $905 million, up 7% from a year ago.
Today’s Linode deal is Akamai’s second big acquisition in recent months, following last September’s $600 million acquisition of Israeli startup Guardicore Ltd., which sells a micro-segmentation platform for securing enterprise networks. .
