Smartmontools is an open source disk detection and control tool. I happened to come into contact with a server today and wanted to check the power-on time of the hard disk of this server. This tool was used, so I recorded the installation and simple application of this tool. Come on, after all, my brain doesn’t work very well as I get older. Users who have a little trouble will find it useful when selecting a server to check the hard disk health status and related parameters.
First, Smartmontools installation
1. CentOS
yum install smartmontools -y
2. Debian
apt-get install smartmontools -y
Select the corresponding system to perform script installation. According to the introduction, there is also a WIN version, but WIN is generally less commonly used, because there are still many detection software for WIN systems. Snail has basically never used a WIN server, so I won't look for it.
Second, simple application of Smartmontools
1. List the hard drives connected to the system
2. Display information about a specific hard drive
3. Check the hard disk health status
smartctl -s on -a /dev/sda
The return result is PASSED which means normal.
4. Check the hard drive power-on time
smartctl -A /dev/sda
To summarize, the above is the basic application of Smartmontools hard disk detection tool. Snail (laozuo.org) will record so much here and update it later if it is useful.
