Nowadays, the cost of choosing a cloud server is indeed much cheaper than in previous years. In the early years, if we chose a server with an annual payment of 15-20 US dollars, we had to wait for a flash sale before we could get it. Nowadays, there are indeed many such merchants. Of course, these are on the premise of excluding stability and line speed. If we really need a stable and good service hosting provider, we still need to look more at it, rather than just looking at the price and cost.

The servers provided by some LiNUX server vendors are indeed cheap, but the hardware configuration used may be relatively old. For example, the hard disk is relatively early and may be eliminated. We can check the server configuration through the hard disk power-on time. If the hard disk is powered on, We try not to use it for too long, as it may cause disk damage and data loss. Snails have encountered this kind of situation before.

Here we can use the smartmontools command to detect the power-on time configuration of the Linux server hard disk.

First, smartmontools software installation

yum install smartmontools -y

Here is installed directly in the CENTOS we are currently testing. If we are DEBIAN/UBUNTU, replace it with apt-get.

Second, check the power-on time of the hard disk

smartctl -A /dev/sda

This requires checking our hard drive letter.

Here we can see Power_On_Hours, and the RAW_VALUE in the last column can see that the current value is 9064, which represents hours. We can use this command to check the power-on time of the current server hard disk. If the time is too long, it is recommended not to use it. Even if you want to use it, you should always back it up.
