Vultr VPS sets up Backups for scheduled automatic backup, with the difference between Snapshots and Snapshots.

In the early years, we used virtual hosts when building websites. Generally, responsible virtual host providers provide regular backup of data on a daily or weekly basis. However, if we use VPS and servers, all data security needs to be managed by ourselves, because most hosting providers are unmanaged, and managed products cost more. Therefore, you need to pay special attention to data security after using VPS.

In many previous articles, Snail has mentioned the need to back up data frequently. No matter we use a cheap server or an established merchant, there is a probability that problems may occur. We can manually download the website backup ourselves, or we can use snapshot backup. For example, VULTR VPS service providers also provide paid Backups backup, and you can set up automatic backup.

Snail also mentioned snapshot backup and data recovery in the article "Using Vultr Snapshots Function to Backup Data and Migration Solution", but there is still a gap between this snapshot backup and the Backups backup function. The former is free, while the latter is a paid service. The former requires manual backup and cannot be customized. For the latter, we can set automatic backup.

First, select server backup

If we need to start the backup service, enter the current server and click Backups. You can see the picture above. It is not started by default because it is a paid service. Click Enable Backups to start if necessary.

Here is a reminder that all files are backed up and individual files cannot be backed up and restored.

Second, set the backup cycle

After startup, we can set the backup cycle, daily backup, weekly, monthly, etc., as well as the backup time, we can set it in the early morning. This will automatically back up based on our settings.

If we don’t want backup, we can close it. After closing, the data will be cancelled. After all, it is a paid service, so we need to consider whether it is necessary to use this automatic backup. If our data is not large, we can manually back it up or use Snapshots to back it up.
