Yesterday I shared with you a tutorial on how to apply for free $300 from Google Cloud (GCP). Today I will share with you how to use this year’s free $300 reasonably! I believe that people generally want to use VPS to build websites or do technical tests. Then I will share with you how to configure the firewall if you use Google Cloud VPS.

Buy IP

Before opening a VPS, you need to purchase an IP and open the Google Cloud Panel

Click VPC Network. A new page will pop up, click on the external IP address in the left menu Then click Reserve Static Address at the top of the page.

Select IPV4. If it is for users in mainland China, select asia-east1.asia-east1 in the Region. This is for Taiwan, and the speed to mainland China is pretty good.

Recommended VPS

Click on the VM instance in Compute Eugine.

Click Create Instance.

You can choose your own configuration here.

At the bottom of the page, there are arrows pointing to the options of management, security, disk, network, and independent rental. Since we have selected the IP before, we now need to bind the IP to this VM.

Open options for arrows. Then in the interface that opens, configure it as shown below.

The main thing is to select the IP you just selected from the external IP.

Remember to click the Done button.

Finally, at the bottom of the page, click the Finish button to create our VPS.

Firewall configuration

Keep your account logged in and open the firewall configuration URL:

https://console.cloud.google.com/networking/firewalls/list

Click--"Firewall Rules--"Create Firewall Rules. You can refer to the figure below to set up the firewall. This setting allows inbound traffic from all IP ports. If you know how to play with firewalls, you can set them up according to your own needs! It is worth noting that in the above figure Traffic direction is: inbound Action on match: Allow Target: all instances in the network Source IP address range: 0.0.0.0/0 Then click Create.
