How to submit a WordPress sitemap through Google Webmaster Tools

Google Search Console, unofficial Chinese name is Google Webmaster Tools. Through Google Webmaster Tools, we can submit the site Sitemap and check Google keyword inclusion exposure and number of clicks, Sitemap link crawling status, mobile device usability, external/internal links, etc. There are so many functions, but what I want to talk about this time is how to add a site Sitemap through the Google Webmaster Platform so that Google can crawl and include the site URL faster.

1. Register and log in to Google Webmaster Tools

First you need to access and log in to Google Search Console (requires a ladder). If you do not have a Google account, you may also need to register and log in to a Google account.

2. Add a site

Click the drop-down button below Google Search Console (as shown in Figure 1 below), and then click "Add Resource" (as shown in Figure 2 below):

Then in the pop-up window, enter the domain name of the site you need to add. After adding, click Continue.

• Domain - If you add via domain, you only need to enter the main domain name, such as mydomain.com;
• Website prefix - If your domain name has multiple subdomains enabled and you want to manage them separately, you can add them by entering the specific site address, such as https://www.mydomain.com.

4. Verify domain name ownership

The final step in adding your site to Google Webmaster Tools is to verify ownership of the domain name you just added.

(1) If you just added the site as a domain, you can only verify the ownership of the domain name by modifying the domain name DNS configuration, as shown in the following figure:

(2) If you add a site as a website prefix, you can verify domain name ownership in a variety of ways:

• HTML file verification-Download the HTML file provided by Google Webmaster Tools and upload it to the domain name root directory for verification;
• HTML Tag Verification-Add to the Header;< /li>
• Google Analytics Verification-(1) You must use the gtag.js tracking code. (2) Your tracking code should be located in the section of the web page. (3) You must have "Edit" permissions on the corresponding Google Analytics property. Note: The Google Analytics tracking code is only used to verify website ownership. It does not access any Google Analytics data.
• Google Tag Manager Verification-(1) You must use the container snippet. (2) You must have "Admin" permissions on the Tag Manager container. Note: The Google Tag Manager container ID is only used to verify site ownership. No Google Tag Manager data will be accessed.
• DNS Verification-The method of adding a site to verify domain name ownership is the same as the domain method.

5. Add sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools

First, you need to click the drop-down arrow mentioned in step 2 to select the website where you want to add a site map; then in the "Site Map" on the right column, enter the sitemap map file name (Note: If you are using the smart seo tool plug-in The file name of the generated sitemap is sitemap.xml (but the sitemap map names generated by different sitemap plug-ins may be different), click "Submit".

Finally, you just need to wait for Google crawlers to verify and crawl your sitemap. Before submitting the sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools, the editor recommends that you directly access the URL address of the sitemap map to see if it can be accessed. If you have not generated a sitemap for your site, it is recommended to generate one, which will be of great help to search engine indexed pages.
