Recently, Microsoft announced through multiple channels that it will launch a new official version of Windows 11 on October 5. At that time, all eligible devices will receive a free Windows 11 upgrade. You can directly upgrade and install it in the Windows Update settings.

Microsoft said it expects to complete the rollout of Win 11 updates to all supported devices by mid-2022, and new PC devices pre-installed with Windows 11 will also go on sale that day.

For example, Lenovo recently announced that it will start selling new computers of Xiaoxin, YOGA and Savior series factory-installed Win11 system at the end of September.

Windows 11 is the latest generation of Windows operating system launched after the release of Win 10 in 2015. Its biggest highlight is the revised Windows appearance interface, enhanced system performance, and a new Windows Store. It also natively supports running Android applications.

However, native support for Android apps, one of the new major features of Win11, will not come in the official version of Win11 in October. Microsoft said it will have to wait until the preview version a few months later. It will be online. As for the official version, we still have to wait a few more months.

The basic hardware requirements for Windows 11 are as follows:

  • Requires 1 GHz or faster 64-bit capable processor (dual or multi-core) or system-on-a-chip (SoC);
  • 4 GB RAM; 64 GB or larger storage device;
  • Supports UEFI secure boot;
  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0;
  • Supports DirectX 12 or higher with WDDM 2.0 driver; HD (720p) display >9 inches diagonal, 8 bits per color channel.

In addition to the above-mentioned minimum system requirements of 64-bit processor, 4GB memory, 64GB storage space, UEFI secure boot, graphics requirements and TPM 2.0, Win 11 also has clear requirements for the processor. According to Microsoft's official processor support list, such as mainstream Intel Core processors, Win 11 only supports 7th generation and above models. For example, the i7-7700HQ processor launched in early 2017 is not within the scope of support. For example, for mainstream AMD Ryzen processors, Win 11 only supports 2nd generation and above models.

Will computers that do not meet the above hardware requirements be completely excluded from Win 11? the answer is negative.

Although Win 11 has strict requirements for hardware such as TPM2.0 and processors, users can still forcefully install Win11 on unsupported PC devices through iSO mirroring, which is considered Microsoft has opened a "backdoor" for these devices, but Microsoft also said that doing so may produce some system bugs and security risks.

After upgrading to Win11, users can choose to roll back to Win10 within 10 days while retaining the files and data migrated with the upgrade. In addition, for Windows 10 devices that have not been upgraded, Microsoft promises to extend support for Win10 until October 14, 2025. Major version updates will be released normally twice a year. The latest Win10 21H2 is expected to be launched in October this year.

Since the end of June, Microsoft has launched a preview version of Windows 11 and is continuing to update it. Each update will bring different system optimizations and functional improvements. The version number is Win 11 21H2 , the latest internal version is currently 22000.168.

Since Win11 is still in the preview testing stage, there may be some usage bugs and software compatibility issues. It is not highly recommended that you use your main machine/work machine PC device. For installation, you can install it in a virtual machine like me and get early access.
