How to change the public IP address of ECS

Changing the public IP address is divided into two situations based on the ECS creation time: the method of changing within 6 hours after the creation of the ECS and the method of changing the ECS after more than 6 hours after the creation. By default, Alibaba Cloud provides each ECS with the option to change the public IP within 6 hours. Once the ECS instance has been more than 6 hours old, the "Change Public IP" option disappears. ECS instances that have been more than 6 hours old can only use "Public IP Conversion". Use the "Elastic Public IP" method to replace the public IP.

Scenario 1: Change the public IP within 6 hours after the ECS instance is created

If your ECS instance has just been created and is less than 6 hours old, you can change the public IP directly in the ECS console.

1. Log in to the ECS management console;

2. Switch regions and find the target instance;

3. Click "More" – "Network and Security Group" – "Change Public IP"

Then click "Start Replacement"

Note: Before changing the public IP, you need to stop the instance; in addition, if more than 6 hours have passed since the instance was created, the "Change Public IP" option will disappear.

Scenario 2: How to change the public IP after the ECS instance was created more than 6 hours ago

If the ECS cloud server has been created for more than 6 hours and the "Change Public IP" option is no longer available, then how do you change the public IP? Alibaba Cloud Encyclopedia tells you: VPC type ECS instances can change the public IP address by "converting the public IP address to an elastic public IP address" (classic network instances can no longer change the public IP address).

1. Log in to the ECS management console;

2. Switch regions and find the target instance;

3. Click "More" - "Network and Security Group" - "Convert Public IP to Elastic Public IP"

Then click "OK"

After the conversion is successful, the original public IP address will be marked as "elastic". In addition, users need to be reminded that after the public IP is converted to an elastic public IP, the EIP will be billed separately and a separate bill will be generated. In addition: Alibaba Cloud Encyclopedia tested that the public IP of pay-as-you-go ECS cannot be changed within 6 hours after purchase and creation. This is because changing the public IP requires stopping the instance, and pay-as-you-go ECS instances The public IP address will be automatically released after stopping, which is very annoying. Therefore, after the pay-as-you-go ECS instance is stopped, there is no option to "change the public IP".
