iCloud+ detailed tutorial on adding custom domain name emails

With the recent release of IOS15, Apple iCloud has launched a new feature. It is the domain name mailbox function. By customizing the domain name mailbox, you can create a unique mailbox suffix. Personally, I think it’s good as an email address for binding accounts, etc. You can send and receive emails directly in your iCloud mailbox.

Advantages and disadvantages:

The domain name is in your own hands and fully controllable. Mastering your domain name gives you complete control over your email. There is a high probability that messages sent from newly created mailboxes will go into the other party's trash can. If we want to use it as a place for job hunting and sending and receiving official documents, we need to use it for a long time to maintain the mailbox.

Environmental conditions

1. Apple IDs in the US and China do not seem to be supported. I have not tested them in other regions, so they should be supported.

2. Subscribe to iCloud storage space of 50G and above.

3. A domain name.

Tutorial steps

1. Open the address https://beta.icloud.com, and then enter the account settings. There is a custom email domain setting in the drop-down box below.

2. Click to add the domain name you own

3. Choose whether to add just yourself or all family accounts.

If you choose me, only you can use it. If you choose a family account, you can assign email addresses to family members.

It is generally recommended to choose a family account.

4. Enter your domain name

Just enter the domain name here, such as baidu.com

5. Next comes the stage of setting up the domain name mailbox in detail.

It is recommended not to perform the second step of "Add an existing email address". You can click the delete button on the right to delete it. Then click Skip below.

We will wait until the email address is added before adding it. Otherwise, you will be stuck in the verification interface!

6. Update your domain registrant settings

Clicking on the view will pop up a new window that contains the domain name resolution settings we need.

Example of domain name resolution:

MX records:

Add two MX records, fill in "@" for the host record, and fill in the MX value given to us by iCloud for the record value. The rest of the items can be left as default.

Tips, why do you need to fill in "@" in the host record?

It is similar to the A record. If we fill in @ here, our domain name email address will be admin@baidu.com in the future. If the host record is filled in such as mail, our future email suffix domain name will be admin@mail. baidu.com this format.

Just follow your own needs. This analysis will not affect our normal website construction.

TXT record:

There are also two TXT records. The two TXT record prompts given by iCloud are:

TXT
apple-domain=fxxZDfn1VAN0JdUC

TXT
v=spf1 redirect=icloud.com

The first TXT fill-in items are as follows:

Record type: TXT
Host record: @
Record value: apple-domain=fxxZDfn1VAN0JdUC
TTL: default

The items to fill in the second TXT are as follows:

Record type: TXT
Host record: @
Record value: v=spf1 redirect=icloud.com
TTL: default

CNAME record:

cname can be parsed directly based on the value given by iCloud.

Host record: sig1._domainkey
Record value: sig1.dkim.baidu.com.at.icloudmailadmin.com.

7. Complete domain name settings

After we completed the parsing earlier, click here to complete the settings. iCloud will verify whether the parsed records are correct. If the prompt is unparsed or wrong, check to see if you have filled it in correctly.

8. Complete domain name addition

The prompt "Your domain name is now available for iCloud Mail" will pop up

9. Assign an email account

Click "Manage" under the custom email domain name set by iCloud to enter domain name list management.

Click on the domain name we just added

You will enter the interface for adding an email address.

Note: The email address you add will be directly associated with your iCloud account, so it is not advisable to add too many. I have some screenshots of the specific situation at the end of the article. If you take a look, you will understand what I am talking about.

Test email

We can test whether the domain name email address can send and receive emails normally.

Using Apple's official email client, you can choose which email address among the senders to send the letter to.

iCloud web client

Mobile client

After testing, emails sent with custom domain names will go into the trash can of QQ mailboxes. Receiving mail is normal.

It is not suitable as a service for sending a large number of letters, nor is it suitable for interviews, sending and receiving official documents and other important occasions. It is possible that the email will go into the other party's spam box and the email will not be visible.

I think it is very suitable as a binding email address for various accounts!

First, the account is bound to an email address and we only need to receive emails.

The second is the custom domain name mailbox. We can restore the usability of the mailbox by re-parsing it elsewhere at any time.
